HOS Visits Finance, Sues for Effective Service Delivery

The head of service, Cross River State, Mr. Ekpenyong Henshaw has charged civil servants in the state to show commitment to duties by being punctual to office and innovative in service delivery. Mr. Henshaw handed down the charge in an interactive session with staff of the ministry during an official visit. The head of service who was represented by a team officials led by the Permanent Secretary (PS), Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Emmanuel Eke observed that civil service is the engine room of any administration, adding that with the proper mind set of the workers, the state administrations achievements will increase tremendously.
Mr. Henshaw who was visiting the ministry for the first time since the year started, stressed the need for civil servants to acquaint themselves with the civil service rules and regulations. He said that no excuse will be accepted from any civil servant who runs foul of service rules on account of ignorance. the PS, Manpower Development, Mrs. Aniedi Ekpenyong emphasized on the dressing code, pointing out that,” sometimes we tend to go with the flow of the political class forgetting that we are civil servants”. She appealed to the management of the ministry to take the issue of in-house training of staff seriously to improve on the service performance of the staff. She disclosed that government may no longer accept staff who have retired on contract and urged senior staff to endeavor to mentor the junior staff working under them. On staff welfare, the Head of Department, Monitoring and Evaluation offices, Dr. Odey Eneji disclosed that the office of the head of service has acquired land in three locations within the state for staff to purchase. the locations according to him are, Akpabuyo, Idundu community and Adiabo village near Tinapa business and leisure resort. Apart from Mr. Eke, Mrs. Ekpenyong and Dr. Eneji, other members of the head of service visitation team included Mr. Thomas Ebong, PS, Chieftaincy Affairs and Mr. Bassey Ekim, Director of Administration, Head of Service Office. At the event, Mr. Gebriel Ikang, PS, Ministry of Finance stood in for the commissioner, Mr Asuquo Ekpenyong.
