The function of the Ministry include amongst others:

  • Development and co-ordination of Government financial and fiscal policies in collaboration with other relevant MDAs connected with Public Financial Management.
  • Identification, co-ordination and harnessing of external and internal sources of funds for the financing of Government programs.
  • Advising and assisting the Governor in the control of development of effective financial control measures supported by the Financial Regulations and other relevant legislations.
  • Management and supervision of the State Government’s investments.
  • Coordinates, supports and supervises the proper recording and reporting of government income/revenue and expenditure through the Office of the Accountant-General.
  • Management of the banking relationship.
  • Management of insurance of government’s assets.
  • Management of the State Government’s tax and fiscal regimes.
  • Coordinates and supervises the generation and accounting for all internally generated revenue of government through the Internal Revenue Service.

The Ministry of Finance Headquarters consists of the following six (6) departments:

  • State Financial Policy Management Department
  • Medium Term Revenue Framework Department
