Dr. Ayade Carries out Free Medical Outreach to Northern Senatorial District

Wife of Cross River State Governor and President, Mediatrix Development Foundation (MDF), Dr (Mrs.) Linda Ayade has through her non-profit organization in partnership with Faith Care Outreach International, Abuja carried out a five-day free medical outreach to the people of northern Senatorial District of Cross River State. Speaking at the General Hospital, Obudu, the venue for the free medical outreach, Dr. Ayade stated that she has experienced medical care in Nigeria and has discovered that people find it difficult to access health services in the country as a result of the cost implication making a lot of people keep their illnesses, some even die as a result of this, hence the reason why she had to go extra mile as a medical practitioner to ensure that the people of Cross River State, especially the vulnerable and those to see in hard to reach areas have access to free medical services, by working in partnership with FaithCare outreach international to meet the health needs of the people, which according to her, is her target. She noted that some of the beneficiaries have been in this poor health condition for over six years and that one of the patients treated had been in that condition for over eighteen years and was therefore happy that the patient’s illness was being taken care of and many other people including children with cases that needed surgery being operated upon to the glory of God.

Mrs. Ayade maintained that this gesture had nothing to do with politics reiterating that it is borne out of her desire to reach out to the less privileged, the vulnerable and hard to reach people of CRS with health care services that has prompted her to carry out free medical services in order to help bridge the gap, for her dream is to see that she helps in making health care delivery affordable and accessible to Cross Riverians as health is wealth. Also speaking, the Director- General, CRS Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu commended Dr. Linda Ayade for the love she has shown to the people of CRS in bringing health care services closer to the vulnerable people who needed it most, adding that, the medical outreach has not only provided solutions to the problems of the people in northern senatorial district, their illnesses, the concerns of the children and family members but has opened their eyes to a new horizon which calls for research into the cause of little children under five years being operated of hernia.

She therefore congratulated the Governor’s wife for touching lives and putting smiles on the faces of people that had no hope nor funds to pay for the treatment received as more than 2,000 people came to benefit from the exercise, Dr. Edu appealed that she continues to support families and women that do not have access to quality healthcare services adding that, it is not about campaign/election for she has been carrying out such medical outreaches in other places including Yakurr and Ikom. In the same vein, the MDF Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Jeffrey Adamade stated that the exercise was part of MDF’s strategic plan/mandate to assist in delivering quality health care services to the vulnerable and less privileged in the society as well as improve their living condition, delighted that they have been able to run the exercise successfully in the three senatorial districts. According to him, they have over the years been able to work on their sustainability by collaborating with development partners and having good partnership with the State Government, while thanking God for enabling them weather the storm (in-spite of the challenges of resources and crowd control, (among others) to carry out the week-long medical outreach successfully and that they will reach out to many people as the funds are available for the need is quite high.

In separate interviews, the Head of the Medical Team of Faithcare Outreach International, Abuja, Dr. Monday Yilkudi and Dr.Dele of Faithcare outreach international stated that the free medical outreach by Dr. Ayade is one of the ways of reaching out to her people and were therefore impressed and encouraged by her zeal and passion to meet their health needs, They have been doing this exercise over the years in different places in Nigeria and expressed delight that Dr. Ayade is partnering with them to reach out to people with health challenges. Dr. Yilkudi disclosed that they were able to carry out 150 surgeries successfully against 3-4 surgeries carried out per day in hospitals due to some bottle necks, saying that the direct reaching out to the poor is more cost effective than the normal bureaucracy where people cannot get proper treatment due to lack of funds. He explained how they were able to carry out an abdomino plastic surgery using mesh on a little boy at Obudu who was born without muscle with only skin covering the intestine. According to him, the mesh is to allow fibrous tissue to come over him which will enable muscle to come up and that the stitches will be removed after two weeks, they thanked the Governor’s wife for hosting them to a burn fire night, at the end of the exercise at Obudu Ranch Resort. In his remarks Mr. Onyeakachi Enoja, a business man residing in Obudu LGA and father of Ugochukwu the little boy who had the abdomino plastic surgery as a result of lumba hernia expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Ayade for her contribution to the Community in giving them the opportunity to access free medical services, adding that, the surgery would have cost him a lot of money.
