CRHA: PAC SET TO RECOVER PUBLIC FUNDS BASED ON LG ACCOUNTS AUDIT
The Cross River State House Assembly’s Committee on Public Accounts has vowed to recover all public funds not accounted for by former leaders of the third tier of Government from 2011 – 2015. The Chairman of the Committee and Member representing Obubra I, Rt. Hon. Friday Gabriel Okpechi disclosed this when Ikom and Etung Local Government Councils took their turns to offer explanations in the Committee’s ongoing verification of the Audited Accounts of the 18 Local Government Councils as submitted to the house by the State Auditor General for Local Governments.
Okpechi frowned at the attitude of nonretirements of financial advances granted officials and other transactions carried out through sundry shortcuts or without due process. Also speaking, the Committee’s Vice Chairman and Member representing Bekwarra, Hon. Edward Ajang charged functionaries of LGCs to cooperate with the Committee by ensuring all defaulters appear before it to answer questions, adding that the 9th Assembly is very concerned about the prudent management of public funds. In response, the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA),
Ikom, Mr. Julius Adie promised to carry out the Committee’s directives accordingly.
Present at the interactive meeting was House Deputy Leader, Rt. Hon. Fred Osim and Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Ironbar,
Member representing Akpabuyo. The Committee adjourned to reconvene the next day with Obubra Local Government Council.>>>
